The Umhlanga coastline. Set against the green hills of the Zulu Kingdom and overlooking the warm Indian Ocean, this beautiful coastline has much to offer the holidaymaker. Besides the sunny weather, breathtaking scenery and wonderful beaches there are a number of activities to keep the the visitor busy.

Diving Sites

The Kwazulu Natal North Coast is a popular destination for diving enthusiasts with colourful tropical reefs, a variety of sea life and interesting wrecks

The Fontao Wreck is an old fishing trawler that sunk off the Umhlanga coastline and lies 27 meters deep.

The T-Barge Wreck, rated among the top 15 South African warm water dives, sunk between Durban and Umhlanga. The average depth is 20 meters and has an abundance of fish.

Tiffany's Reef just north of Salt Rock is also a popular spot for spear fishing. Dolphin Reef has a depth ranging from 16 to 27 meters. The reef is covered in soft corals, mushroom corals and sponges and stretches for over 2 km. The Lighthouse Reef is offshore of Umhlanga, just south of the Umhlanga coastline lighthouse. Sheffield Reef is off Sheffield Beach with an average depth of 9 meters. Two reefs run parallel with varied and plentiful sea life.
